Park Nature Center to be named for the Maybank-Rhett family (Nov 10, 2015)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flat Rock, North Carolina, November 10, 2015—The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Maybank and Rhett family members have committed pledges and gifts in the amount of $40,000 for The Park at Flat Rock. This collective family gift will allow the Park’s proposed nature center to be called the Maybank-Rhett Nature Center.

“This is an exciting chance to be involved in Flat Rock’s future,” stated Anne Coletta, who organized the family contribution. “I’m fortunate to be part of a very generous family who has been connected to Flat Rock since the 1850s, particularly in the Highland Lake area near the Park. As Henderson County becomes less rural, we believe it becomes more important than ever to preserve and protect areas where native plants and animals can thrive, and where we can go to learn more about the natural life around us. The Nature Center will provide a space to display information about the wildlife in the Park and western North Carolina—and we are happy to help make this happen!”

The Maybank-Rhett Nature Center will be located within the heart of the Park, situated between three distinct environments—the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the heartbeat of nature, to observe wildlife, and to learn about flora and fauna unique to our area. It will be connected by trails and bridges to the wetlands, perimeter trail, and interior trails throughout the Park.

The Flat Rock Park and Recreation Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2013 by the Village of Flat Rock, North Carolina to help raise the funds required to fulfill the vision of a signature municipal park for the community. That vision includes opportunities for recreation, health, and education for all generations while preserving the natural beauty that draws visitors from far and wide to Western North Carolina.
