Flat Rock Receives NCDOT bike and pedestrian planning grant (March 11, 2016)
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Flat Rock, North Carolina, March 11, 2016 – The Village of Flat Rock is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $51,000 Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
“This grant gives Flat Rock the opportunity to create an overall bicycle and pedestrian plan within our village as well as work with the county and other municipalities in a regional approach to the planning of greenways and safe routes for bicycle and pedestrian travel in the area,” said Mayor Bob Staton.
The NCDOT planning grant is a step towards the goal of identifying bicycle and pedestrian pathways that would provide safe and convenient travel around the village. A comprehensive village bicycle and pedestrian plan, together with a county-wide master greenways plan reflecting connectivity to greenways, paths, and trails in the county and other municipalities, would provide elected officials a professional blueprint for that purpose.
